A three - five-week course in needle felting

Felting Only | Green Man, Felting Nature Elements

April 18th - May 9th, 2025

The Green Man class is a five-week class that combines the art of faerie-making with beginner and intermediate felting techniques. You can also choose to join for the felting portion only. In the first two weeks, we’ll hand-sew moss faeries using natural fibers, learn to dye wool locks for hair, embroider faces, create tattered wings, and craft clothing from salvaged antique fabrics. In the following three weeks, we will needle-felt a Green Man over a wire armature. You'll learn how to build a wire armature for figurative sculptures, master needle-felting techniques to shape the figure, and incorporate color and texture and various fibres to bring the Green Man to life and capture a sense of the forest floor. We’ll also be working with wool and silk to create moss, wet-felted ferns, and toadstools.

Materials are not included. A resource list will be emailed upon registration, detailing where to find materials in Canada, the US, Australia, and the UK. Unfortunately, EU registrations are not currently accepted due to GSPR regulations, but I am working hard to resolve this!

Kits will be available to purchase from The Olive Sparrow in Canada.

Course structure

New lessons will be available every Friday, with an estimated 3-6 hours of recommended work per week. You can move through the modules at your own pace, as you’ll have permanent access to the course. Additionally, weekly Zoom meetings will take place on Sundays to review progress and answer any questions.

• 3 weeks of modules: comprising of video tutorials & photo/text (depending on whether you are doing the full class with doll making and felting or the felting only).

• Five Zoom meetings: Zooms are held every Sunday. They are an excellent opportunity to share work and ask questions.

• In-course support with me for the duration of the course: you can ask questions whenever you need via email or Facebook. I will also be available after the class if you are revisiting lessons and have any questions.

• Access to our private class Facebook group: This is a wonderful way of connecting with other students during the course, sharing photos of work, and getting/giving feedback.

• Permanent access to the course content (for as long as my site is online).

**The Green Man class may not be used to recreate work to sell commercially. My design for the Faeries may not be sold commercially either. Doll making is a wonderful art form and this workshop is intended to help you build skills and learn techniques that are versatile and can be applied in all sorts of ways in your own doll making and felting.
