Moon Hare

A six week course in Faerie making & needle felting

Full Class - July 7th - August 18th, 2023

Felting only - July 21st - August 18th, 2023

*Space is limited. I like to keep the classes small so that I have time to work with everyone.

The full class is six weeks long and includes doll making and needle felting a large wool sculpture. The first two weeks will be devoted to making your rider, a natural fibre art doll. The last four will be focused on needle felting the hare and base, including toadstools. There is an option to join for the felting portion only and not make the faeries. You will learn how to make a wire armature for a larger animal, needle felting techniques for building form, and different techniques for felting fur and facial features. If you are doing the full class, you will be hand sewing faeries from natural fibres, learning how to dye locks for hair with a variety of natural dyes, embroider faces, and create clothing using salvaged antique fabrics and wet felting techniques. You will also learn how to create wool moss, stones and small toadstools.

Materials are not included in the cost of the course. A full resource list for materials will be emailed to you within 24 hours of registration. Where available resources are listed for Canada, the US, Australia, and the UK. Kits will also be available for purchase from the Olive Sparrow in Canada.

Prior needle felting experience is recommended but not absolutely necessary if you are confident and have some kind of previous handwork experience.

New lessons will be available every Friday, with about 5-8 hours of student time recommended each week. You can work through the modules at your own pace as you have 12 months to access to the online classroom. I am available throughout the five weeks to answer any questions. We will meet weekly in an online Zoom to discuss progress and share work.

Please read through the FAQ if you have any questions, or contact me directly.

**Please be aware that the faeries I will be teaching you to make are my aesthetic and one that I have spent years developing. So, you may not use this doll pattern to sell from commercially. Doll making is a wonderful art form and this workshop is all about building skills and learning techniques that are versatile and can be applied in all sorts of ways in your own doll making journey!
