Faerie Making Course

A two-week course in Faerie making

In this two-week class we will be exploring the world of natural fibre art dolls. You will hand sew a series of faeries from cotton, wool and silk. The class will cover armatures, building a form, dyeing locks with a variety of natural dyes, embroidering faces, and creating clothing using salvaged antique fabrics and wool felt.

Materials are not included in the course fee. A comprehensive resource list will be emailed upon registration, detailing where to find materials in Canada, the US, Australia, and the UK.

This is a beginner level class, but previous hand sewing experience is an asset.

New lessons will be released every Friday, with an estimated 3-6 hours of work recommended each week. You can progress through the modules at your own pace, as you will have permanent access to the course. Weekly Zoom meetings will be held on Sundays to review work and address questions.

The Course:

Week 1 - Crafting a Faerie

Creating and wrapping a wire armature

How to shape a face

Hand stitching a body

Embroidering a face

Week 2 - Creating clothing, hair, and wings

Playing with different fibers and patterns to dress your faerie.

Sewing on hair (we’ll talk about how to hand-dye mohair locks using natural plant dyes)

Creating wings using two different techniques.

What’s included:

• 2 weeks of modules comprising of video/photo tutorials for each lesson.

• Weekly Zoom meetings: Zooms are held every other Sunday throughout the course. They are an excellent opportunity to share work and ask questions.

• In-course support with me for the duration of the course – you can ask questions whenever you need via email or Facebook.

• Access to the Faerie Course Facebook group This is a wonderful way of connecting with other students during the course, sharing photos of work, and getting/giving feedback.

• Access to private alumni Facebook group Join the Lavender & Lark Faerie makers Circle to connect with other alumni, share work and see what others are creating.

• Permanent access to the course content and all future updates (for as long as my website exists).

**Please be aware that the faeries I will be teaching you to make are my pattern and style and one that I have spent years developing. So, you may not use this class to sell from commercially. Doll making is a wonderful art form and this workshop is all about building skills and learning techniques that are versatile and can be applied in all sorts of ways in your own doll making journey!
