~ May 31st - June 2nd ~

"No child but must remember laying his head in the grass, staring into the infinitesimal forest and seeing it grow populous with fairy armies."

 ~Robert Louis Stevenson

When: May 31st - June 2nd, 2019 | Friday 4 - 8PM, Saturday & Sunday 10 - 6PM

Where: Portland, Oregon

Come and join me at the Magical Fernie Brae for a weekend of faerie making! Please Contact me if you would like additional travel or accommodation information.

What: We will be crafting a 5-6" Faerie with wire amrature, embroidered features, hand dyed mohair locks for hair, and hand sewn clothing. The focus will be on both the technical and artistic aspects of creating a doll. We’ll talk about how to bring out your doll's own unique personality, and how to create a sense of movement or life.

For Who: This workshop is for those who have prior hand-sewing experience. It requires comfort with very tiny hand-stitches, it is finicky work.

  • All tools and materials.

  • Tea & snacks on all three days.

  • Lunch on Saturday and Sunday

  • An in-depth PDF tutorial covering everything I will be teaching in class.

During this intensive two and a half day workshop you will make a 5-6" natural fibre art doll with wire armature, using cotton interlocks (specifically for this kind of doll making), wool roving, mohair locks, and vintage fabrics. On Sunday afternoon I will be teaching the basics of needle felting as you decorate a plain wool toadstool with colour, moss, and flowers, for your fairy to sit on.

Lavender & Lark workshop

This is a small workshop, with only 8 spaces available, so I will have ample time to work with everyone one on one.

The first day will be introductions, making your doll's wire armature, needle felting the head, and familiarizing yourself with the stitches you'll be using.

The second day you will be sewing your doll, learning techniques for shaping & embroidering a face, making feet and hands, and attaching wool locks for hair.

The third day you will be hand sewing clothing from antique fabrics and wool felt & creating tattered faerie wings. We will spend the end of the afternoon creating felted moss & flowers to decorate the base of your toadstool.

Cancellation Policy: The workshop is non-refundable unless your place can be filled by someone else.

Due to travel and logistics, there must be at least five people registered in order for the workshop to take place. If there are not five participants signed up by May 15th, I will have to cancel the workshop and will issue a full refund.

**Please be aware that you may not use this exact doll pattern to sell from. Doll making is a wonderful art form and this workshop is all about building skills and learning techniques that are versatile and can be applied in all sorts of ways to your own doll making.
