July 19th - August 16th
In this five week class we will be exploring the world of hares and faeries. You will learn how to make a wire armature for a larger animal, needle felting techniques for building form, creating a sense of movement, and felting fur and facial features using various types of wool. We'll be hand sewing faeries from natural fibres, learning how to dye locks for hair, embroider faces, and create clothing using salvaged antique fabrics and wool felt.
Materials are not included in the cost of the course. You will receive a list of supplies and where to find them when you register. Kits will also be available from The Olive Sparrow.
Once registered for the course you have permanent access to all course material on a password protected area of the website. You can work at your own pace.
Week 1 - Crafting a Faerie
Creating and wrapping a wire armature
How to shape a face
Hand stitching a body
Embroidering a face
Week 2 - Creating clothing, hair, and wings
Playing with different fibers and patterns to dress your faerie.
Sewing on hair (we’ll talk about how to hand-dye mohair locks using natural plant dyes)
Creating realistic wings
Week 3 - Hare armature
Creating a wire armature for your hare and building up its form with wool batting.
Week 4 - Creating fur
Working with different fibres and techniques to create fur. Working
Week 5 - Details
The final week will be spent focusing on creating the details in your hare’s face that will bring it to life. We will also be making saddles and reins, and attaching the faerie riders.
5 weeks of modules comprising of video tutorials for each lesson, and in-depth PDF tutorials covering every step of the process.

**Please be aware that the faeries I will be teaching you in this class are my personal pattern, and one that I have spent years developing. You may not use the material in this class to create dolls to sell commercially. Doll making is a wonderful art form and this workshop is all about building skills and learning techniques that are versatile and can be applied in all sorts of ways in your own doll making journey!
